AllSeen Alliance Announces Sony as Premier Member
Electronics Giant Joins Efforts to Advance the Internet of Everything
SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Sep 2, 2014) – The AllSeen Alliance, the broadest Internet of Everything open source project, announced Sony Corporation as the newest AllSeen Alliance Premier Member. Sony joins 10 Premier Members — Electrolux, Haier, LG, Microsoft, Panasonic, Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc., Sharp, Silicon Image, Technicolor and TP-Link — and 53 Community Members united to overcome the interoperability challenges that impede the Internet of Things.
AllSeen Alliance represents the largest group of companies ever assembled to advance universal connectivity among a disparate range of objects and devices in homes and businesses. Alliance members are working to advance the Internet of Everything by collaborating on a universal software framework, based on AllJoyn open source code. AllJoyn allows discovery and interoperability among devices and objects regardless of brand, operating system and other infrastructure considerations.
Sony continues to demonstrate its support of open source development through the creation of products and solutions that provide consumers and businesses a seamless and connected experience. As a leading manufacturer of audio, video, game, communications and information technology products, Sony brings to the AllSeen Alliance a shared vision for the Internet of Everything through the creation of a common, interoperable platform.
“Open source provides the unique ability to collaborate across company lines to advance technologies and enable change. The only way to build the future of ubiquitously connected devices is by working together,” said Liat Ben-Zur, chairwoman of the AllSeen Alliance. “We’re excited to welcome Sony to this thriving community, and look forward to their contributions to the AllJoyn open source project.”
