Nominations now open for the 4th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards

Sponsored by Future Shop, the CVAs return to Vancouver this April with two new categories!

December 03, 2012 (Vancouver, B.C.) – Nominations opened today for the 4th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards, to be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on April 20th, 2013. This year’s show, sponsored by Future Shop, will once again celebrate the best and brightest of the Canadian videogame industry. Developers, publishers and industry leaders from across Canada will gather in beautiful Vancouver to recognize the outstanding achievements of 2012.

“Heading into the holiday season,” said Victor Lucas, co-host and executive producer of The Electric Playground and Reviews on the Run, “videogames are high on everyone’s wish lists. We’d really like Canadians to recognize just how much incredible interactive entertainment was made this year in this country.  As the third largest developer of video games in the world, this show celebrates Canada’s place as a world leader in this industry.”

Nominations for work developed in Canada and released in 2012 are now open and are welcome from all parts of Canada’s game industry. The Call for Nominations will close on February 1, 2013.  The award categories, as selected by a committee of industry leaders from across Canada, are:

• Best Audio
• Best Console Game
• Best Downloadable Game
• Best Game Design
• Best Game on the Go
• Best Game Innovation
• Best Indie Game
• Best New Character
• Best Original Music
• Best Social/Casual Game
• Best Technology
• Best Visual Arts
• Best Writing
• Game of the Year

The two new categories for this year’s awards show are:

• Best Animation
• Future Shop Peoples’ Choice Award

Finalists in all categories will be announced March 11, 2013, when public voting for the Future Shop Peoples’ Choice Award will open.

The Canadian Videogame Awards will be held during  Fan Expo in Vancouver, and are produced by Reboot Communications and Greedy Productions. The Awards are officially endorsed by the Entertainment Software Association of Canada and DigiBC. The producers are joined by a national industry committee of developers and leaders of the Canadian digital entertainment industry.
